Each year Indiana University- Mauer School of Law recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves in service to their communities and the law school in ways far exceeding traditional business, professional, and civic duties. This year IU bestowed this award to four individuals, including Sapientia Law Group’s own President and Chief Manager, Sonia Miller-Van Oort. The law school honored Sonia at its virtual Summit on September 25, 2020, for her hundreds of hours of service to the Minnesota legal community as the 89th president of the Hennepin County Bar Association (one of the 15 largest county bar associations in the country), serving as the Association’s first Hispanic president and the second-youngest president in its history, and as the Minnesota State Bar Association’s first Hispanic bar president in 2017-2018. The law school further recognized Sonia’s history of service to the law school as a member of the Alumni Board of Directors from 2003-2009 and as a founding member of the law school’s Latino Alumni Advisory Board.
