Attorney James Selmer’s primary strength is his exceptional ability to understand his clients’ needs. James has more than 38 years’ experience handling a variety of complex multi-party cases in state and federal district courts. He has extensive experience in virtually all phases of the litigation process from pretrial to trial to the appellate level. He focuses his practice in the areas of insurance litigation, complex business and commercial litigation, product liability, general liability claims, labor and employment law, contracts, and real estate matters, including eminent domain, condemnation litigation and title clearance matters.

His use of sound judgment and common sense, along with effective communication, negotiation and trial skills, have yielded numerous favorable results for his clients throughout the years.

J. Selmer Law, P.A. (“JSL”) was started 35 years ago by Attorney James Selmer, a 1977 graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. JSL is one of the largest minority-owned law firms in the State of Minnesota and employs six attorneys.

Our office is in downtown Minneapolis at 500 Washington Avenue South, Suite 2010, Minneapolis, MN 55415. Presently, our geographical region of practice includes Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota.

JSL is a defense litigation firm and business transaction firm which provides legal services to businesses, including insurance companies and public-sector entities. Our attorneys have more than 193 years’ combined litigation and jury trial experience. We have extensive experience in all phases of the litigation process, including handling cases at state and federal district courts levels, and appellate levels.

We also have successfully handled cases before administrative tribunals, arbitrations, mediations and mini-trials. Our attorneys are well respected in the legal and business community, as some of our attorneys, in addition to trying cases, have served in administrative capacities as hearing officers and arbitrators in civil litigation matters.
